Sobriety: The Secret Weapon No One Talks About
It’s not about "not drinking," it’s about waking up.
I’ve been sober since April 8, 2003.
I don’t tell you for accolades or a pat on the back.
But to show you what’s possible when we remove the real obstacles that are keeping us stuck.
Sobriety isn’t about alcohol.
It’s about clarity. It’s about courage.
It’s about finally growing up, showing up, and looking the world in the eye with no filters and no excuses.
For 15 years (from age 15-31) I used alcohol to cope, not with the booze itself, but with the thinking behind it.
- The childhood wounds I didn’t even know I had.
- The pain from broken relationships.
- The fear of not being good enough.
- The stress of money.
I was never addicted to the drink.
I was addicted to not feeling what needed to be felt.
That’s the trap many leaders fall into.
We build businesses. We lead teams. We chase achievement.
But quietly, we’re drowning in overthinking, overdoing, and avoiding the deeper work.
And when we try to "get sober"... from alcohol, porn, binge eating, overworking, whatever it is, most people fail.
Why?
Because we try to remove the destructive habit without replacing it with something healthier.
We white-knuckle it.
We fight through every day with tension in our jaw and chaos in our mind.
But here's the truth:
* If we don’t substitute the coping with purpose-driven behavior, we’re just swapping one prison for another.
When you begin to heal, real sobriety kicks in… Emotional Sobriety!
You remove toxic people and self-sabotaging patterns.
You reconnect with your purpose.
You begin to actually enjoy your life instead of just surviving it.
And then something beautiful happens.
You don’t need alcohol. Or screens. Or stimulation. Or noise.
There’s no space for it.
You’re free.
Client Spotlight: The CEO Who Got Sober Before Rock Bottom
One of my long-time clients, Sam, a powerhouse Founder and CEO I've worked with for over five years, didn’t wait for disaster to make a change.
He wasn’t crashing cars or losing jobs.
He was running a thriving business, had a solid family, and was “functioning just fine” from the outside.
But he told me: “It just feels like alcohol is getting in the way. Of my energy. My presence. My marriage. My peace.”
He was in what we call the “gray area” between sober and possibly a problem… but he made the choice to stop drinking, not because he had to, but because he wanted better.
We worked through his internal drivers and triggers, his mental loops, and created new rhythms that aligned with his values and vision (so important… THIS is the real work).
Today?
His relationships have never been stronger.
His health is dialed in.
And he shows up as a more powerful, grounded, and present version of himself, in life and leadership.
He didn’t need to hit rock bottom.
He just needed to raise his standard.
And the ripple effect has been massive.
So if you’re reading this and wondering if life could feel better… the answer is yes.
Not by force. Not by guilt.
But by consciously choosing to remove what’s dulling your edge.
If you’re a high performer, but struggling right now, if you’re successful on the outside but stuck on the inside, PLEASE don’t wait.
